Program Spotlight: Nursing at Albany State University
Albany State University offers dynamic nursing programs that prepare students for
successful and rewarding careers in healthcare. With multiple degree pathways, ASU
meets the needs of students at every stage of their professional journey. Options
include the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), the Bachelor of Science in Nursing
(BSN) through both the traditional 2+2 and accelerated second-degree tracks, the RN-to-BSN
completion program, and graduate-level opportunities such as the Master of Science
in Nursing (MSN) and post-master’s certificates. All programs are fully accredited
by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the
Georgia Board of Nursing, ensuring quality education that meets the highest professional
standards.
At ASU, nursing education extends beyond the classroom and clinicals. Students learn to deliver culturally competent, holistic care while developing the critical thinking and clinical skills required for licensure (NCLEX-RN) and advanced roles. The program also emphasizes a global perspective, equipping graduates to care for diverse populations in an evolving healthcare environment.

Dr. Deanna Howe
Professor & Director of MSN Nurse Edu. Program
Dr. Howe is a Professor and Director of the MSN Nurse Educator Program at ASU. Her career has spanned 40 years in healthcare, 30 years as a nurse, and 20 years in nursing education. Her work bridges academic rigor, innovation, and inclusive pedagogy to prepare future nurse educators. A national leader in accreditation activities, she serves on the board of commissioners for CNEA and was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education, September of this year.
